Release 1.1 of the OS/2-OS/390 Facilitator is now available for distribution.
Running on the OS/2 side of a P390 or Integrated Server, the OS/2-OS/390 Facilitator is a
comprehensive set of OS/2 commands that make maintenance and recovery of P390-IS-OS/390
systems much easier. This is accomplished by allowing access to OS/390 data from
OS/2.
Facilitator(tm) provides the following functions:
 | copy text OS/390 sequential data set or PDS member to OS/2 file
|
 | copy text OS/2 file to OS/390 sequential data set or PDS member
|
 | rename OS/390 data set
|
 | zap OS/390 volume or data set (in a manner similar to AMASPZAP)
|
 | list VTOC of OS/390 volume
|
 | list directory of OS/390 partitioned data set
|
 | change volser of OS/390 volume (CLIP) |
Facilitator provides many benefits. Follows are a few examples:
- A user could try new OS/390 SYS1.PARMLIB configurations,
and, if the system failed to IPL, easily edit the changed member(s)
in SYS1.PARMLIB, or rename back the original SYS1.PARMLIB
data set, and bring up the original OS/390.
- Facilitator could be used to generate PDS member names
into an OS/2 file, and this information used to automatically
generate Facilitator commands to transfer all or part of the
PDS to OS/2.
